First grade is an exciting year of growth and discovery as students build on the foundational skills they learned in kindergarten. In literacy, they will expand their reading abilities by learning to recognize sight words, read simple sentences, and practice phonics for decoding new words. In math, they will dive into addition and subtraction within 20, explore place value, and work with basic measurement concepts and shapes. Science lessons will encourage exploration of the natural world, focusing on topics like plants, animals, and the weather. Social studies will introduce students to communities, geography, and the concepts of rules and responsibility. Through engaging activities in art, music, and physical education, first graders will also develop their creativity, coordination, and teamwork. Overall, first grade fosters a love of learning while strengthening academic skills and personal growth.
